The artist says “This series is inspired by the the beautiful black and white studio portraits from the golden age of Hollywood featuring sirens of the silver screen. I have always been drawn to these photographs with their masterful use of light and their softness which comes from shooting on real film.
I love playing on this softness, going against the grain of the often sharp graphic block colour aesthetic of screen print, and instead enhancing the soft, graininess akin to old newspaper print, with charcoal, bronze powders and paint - it is often unpredictable, but as each print is different it is an extremely gratifying process.”
